Tips to get started....

Today, it is more acceptable to appear in court "on one's own behalf" than ever before in recent legal history.

It must be remembered that the three biggest risks in "do-it-yourself" law are:

  (a) not following legal procedures,

  (b) not concisely stating your case, and

  (c)  not asking for reasonable relief in $$$.

Certain strategies give you greater chances for success than do others. Certain pleadings are required and timely motions enhance your chances for a judgment.

Truth of the matter is that most cases are settled before you ever get to present before a judge.  Today, cases are won or lost on procedure,  technicalities, or precedents based upon unrelated decisions.

It is important that you don't take a judge's decision for granted in "pro se" actions.  You usually have ten days in which to appeal or ask for reconsideration if you blieve application of law was misused.  If your opposition loses they sure will take advantage of that.

Remember that attorneys charge large sums of money to prepare a case that they can ask 10 times what you will ask for and you may wind up with less than your original request.
